When a curator casually announces in a exhibition planning meeting that the lone work by a woman of color is being scratched from the exhibition checklist for lack of name recognition.

I would do anything and that's what scares me so bad

as an art historian, may i just say: fuck banksy.
instead of banksy, the white guy who has been funded and coddled by the elite as the darling of the circle-jerking art white male art world, TRY:
the distinction between “crafts” and “fine art” is probably driven by misogyny and the devaluation of women’s labor
art forms that have traditionally been practiced by women like embroidery are devalued and called just “crafts” while art forms that women historically were mostly barred from (painting, sculpture) are “fine art”
It’s also driven by racism in Western art appreciation courses in my experience. African art tends to be viewed as crafts rather than fine art, especially when it’s art that can have functional uses in households.
*sees good art*

*thinks I can art*

Stop thinking about art works as objects, and start thinking about them as triggers for experiences. That solves a lot of problems. Art is something that happens, a process, not a quality, and all sorts of things can make it happen … [W]hat makes a work of art ‘good’ for you is not something that is already ‘inside’ it, but something that happens inside you.

Australian Indigenous art is the longest unbroken tradition of art in the world. It is so old in fact, that examples have been found that depict long extinct megafauna. Now a push is underway to establish just how old it really is. It is expected that the research will reveal a date of at least 50,000 years, placing it among the oldest rock art in the world.
Australia is really really long term committed to fucking it up. it’s outrageous. I sincerely hope the dating will show those drawings are older than everything found before. anyway it’s ridiculous as a scientist to conclude just because the drawings in France are the oldest ones found SO FAR it means that’s where artistic expression started. like. come. on.
Currently raising funds through an Indiegogo campaign, Unseen Art aims to develop a software platform that will bring visual art into the 3-D world. And best of all, they’re going to make sure it gets in the hands of those who want it.
ive read more about this and want to cry… ive spent thousands of dollars both on a degree in art history and on surgeries to prevent my vision from vanishing from a condition ive had a very long time and i hope this and other projects/orgs for making art accessible to the blind can grow in the future.. you can donate here https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/unseen-art-experiencing-art-for-the-first-time#/
Woooww, this is cool! O:
This is the greatest photoset I have ever seen.
The song just went through my head gif by gif
Honestly I could probably post nothing but this gif set every day and still find it funny years from now
Artists are politicians because art is political by nature, it is for the many. Sothe moment you put your art on a stage you are a politician of culture. You influence, you can change, you can help, you are a voice representing and selling an idea. You are powerful.
